What is PTT?
Push to talk (PTT) is a voice service that allows people to instantly reach each other with a simple push of a button in walkie-talkie style. Push-to-talk over Cellular (PoC) refers to this instant voice communication over 2,5G/3G/4G packet switched mobile networks.
Push to talk enables instant one-to-one and group communication. PTT does not suffer from long call establishment times and is more suitable for delivering short messages than traditional phone calls.
A user pushes a special PTT button of the handset and gets permission to talk if no other participant in the group is talking. Voice is transmitted to other participants until the button is released. Since only one person is able to talk at a time, it is easier to manage the communication in larger groups and overlapping talk can be avoided.
